Temperature Gauge Problems PLEASE HELP

1995 Z28

Driving around the other day I noticed the temperature gauge jump up all the way into the red. Turned off the car and a few minutes later the temp was back to normal. Now the car keeps doing this and I don't think it's overheating. When you accelerate fast the needle goes down from the red to the normal temperature and when you put it in neutral and rev the needle drops also.

Has this happened to anybody else before? Just trying to target the problem easier with CamaroZ28.com's help. Thanks in advance guys.

-Coolant level is correct
-I will be purchasing a new sensor shortly.

Re: Temperature Gauge Problems PLEASE HELP

Wiggle the wire hooked to the sensor and have a buddy monitor the gauge. The wire is located in the driver's side head between plugs 1 and 3. It's located next to the exhaust manifold and the wire could have gotten damaged.

BUMP

Still having problems. If you rev the car up in the driveway the needle just starts to drop dramatically from just under the red. Could this be a water pump that isn't functioning 100 percent. PLEASE HELP thanks

Re: Temperature Gauge Problems PLEASE HELP

I would just get a new sensor for $28 from NAPA. Cut the stock wire, connect it to the new one, ground the wire for the new sensor, and you're good to go.

BTW it's Delphi brand

Re: Temperature Gauge Problems PLEASE HELP

bleed the system...the screw on the tstat housing and on the screw on the return hose (one that goes from the pump to the top of the radiator, right below the radiator cap.)
do that when its already warmed up. also, check your coolant level, it may be low, and also check for cracked hoses...ones iwth lil pin holes...remove your air intake boxes, check the hose that goes into the throttle body...that one seemed to give me those kinda bad readings when it had the pin hole leak.
i just went thru my whole cooling system lol
