TH350 tailshaft question

I posted this in the drivetrain section but was hoping to get a response sooner here. im swapping trannies, the TH350 in place of my 4l60e. I heard that the 9" tailshaft was the way to go so i wouldt have to lengthen my driveshaft. I ordered the GM parts for teh speedo and the sensor part number 8655314 is way too big to fit in the hole of the tailshaft where the factory mechanical speedo went. are there different 9" tailshafts made...one with a larger and smaller hole, or what? if so, what make/model 9" tailshaft am i looking for? the tranny rebuilder said that he has only seen 6" tailshafts with that big of a hole. Also, has anyone used the tranny swap kit from jegs? its about 95 bucks, includes the torque arm bracket and it says 82-up camaro/firebird but when i got the package it said 82-92 camaro/firebird...is this because of the electri speedo and shift, or will it not work? thanks for your info

Use the tailhousing off your 4L60E with a Fitz-All spacer between it and the case. You can even get them drilled for your mount, so the spacing will be right. Unfortunately, I don't know where you're going to put your "drive" speedo rotor. There's no place for it on a stock 9" shaft. Fitz-All also sells an output shaft for the swap, but you've got to take the transmission apart to change the shaft.

I've got to ask....Why are you putting a transmission in that isn't any stronger than a 700/4L60E?

thanks for the reply, but im pretty sure that the speedo setup im trying to do works on these cars because ive read posts of people that have done it this way, i just forgot who has done it. As far as the reason why im going with the TH350 over the 4l60e is because they are stronger when you build them. i cant keep a 4l60e in my 11 second car for very long and i know people running 9's with the TH350. I know its not as strong as the TH400, but for my setup i think itll be just fine, and its quite a bit lighter and doesnt rob as much HP. ALso, cheap rebuilds, and best of all a trans brake with the manual valve body and ratchet shifter.

I've got 700's in the mid 10's and atleast 1 4L60E running 11.0 @ 124 MPH, very consitantly....In Drive. Reliability? I built it 2 1/2 years ago.
