Re: thermostat

can you?

YES

should you?

NO

why do you think you need to? if it's overheating pulling the stat is a bandaid for a real problem...and can easily hide more problems.

a stat is there for a reason

Re: thermostat

i have a new water pump and a new stat. the fans kick on but the car still gets hot. the antifreeze is staying in the engine. i think that i got a bad stat. i was going to remove the stat b/c i don't drive the car much.

Re: thermostat

you don't seem to understand that a stat allows a certain amount of coolant into your engine thus allowing you to not waste all that coolant and to not put too much strain on the waterpump which that will eventually break.

First time I've ever heard that one..... the t'stat blocks water flow from the radiator to let the engine warm up faster, then it opens and does not much else. It will start to close if the coolant temp drops below the desired value, to keep the engine from running too cool.
