Thinking about Buying...

Hey world.

I am considering buying a 1994 Pontiac Trans Am

it has 118,000 miles
6 speed manual
all power
security system
t-tops
cd player

in good condition

the guy wants $3000.

is this a good deal?

also i dont really know much about these cars. so can someone inform me about buying an older lt1.

I'm sorta concerned about the "high" mileage but i'm thinking, just like any other car, if it was maintained it such last pretty long.

am i right?

so please enlighten me with your knowledge.

thanks

i wouldn't be too concerned about the mileage. The motor is fine but you should expect accessories to go occasionally (fuel pump, alternator, etc)

Looks like a great deal if the body and interior are in good condition. If the mainenance was up to date through the life of the car then $3k seems all well and good. Like the previous poster mentioned expect accessories that wear out over time like the fuel pump, clutch, alternator, passanger window motor, etc to go over time.

Well I just talked to the owner and everything seems legits.

he said no mechanical problems, good tires, leather, free spare set of mag wheels.

the only thing is that it may need a new clear coat.

and he said that his son owned it for 4 years so i'm pretty sure it was beat on.

But overall it seems like a great deal.

can anyone direct me to a major source of info on these cars besides this site?

I'm about to pick up an M6 95' formula for $3500 thinking I got a steal. Have a trustworthy mechanic look at it, but it sounds like a steal.

I'm so confused.

everyone is telling me that it is such a steal at $3000 but...the owner has had the car for sale for over a month on all types of advertising sites and he still hasnt sold it.

whats up with that?

are these cars even sought after anymore?

b/c i am thinking about driving it for a few months and then reselling, but if i cant get back what i paid for ~$3000 then i dont want to buy it in the first place.

give me your thoughts

If resell value is even remotely important to you then an LT1 is not the car for you.

If you want to go pretty quick on the cheap, have fun, and don't mind wrenching then that is a great deal.

The miles are by no means high and it is a steal. The reason it hasnt sold yet is all in part to the economy. If the economy was good it would have sold along time ago.

Now go get it.
