Thinking about a cam

Thinking about a cam
Well the opti decided to take a dive on me.
After talking to a pretty fast Supra buddy I was telling him how I am throwing in some long tubes to go with the nitrous and all that. He told me that since I will have the majority of the stuff off for a cam swap with the opti replacement that I should do a cam swap. What do you guys think of an LT4 Hot cam on stock springs and all? I don't want anything crazy because I want to build a motor down the road. Any sugestions or will I be stuck pulling the heads and throwing in new springs and all? Oh and stock heads and a 3.42 gear.

Re: Thinking about a cam
Get a hotcam kit if you want the hotcam, you wont get all the cam without 1.6 RR's and springs to match. They can be had for a bit over $400.
I am still wondering why a Supra guy is telling you what to do with your car? Did he used to own a LT1?
Its not a bad idea though, cams are fun peices of metal.

Re: Thinking about a cam
The Supra guy has messed with domestics quiet a bit along with the LS1/LT1 stuff.
Do you just put the piston at TDC so the valve does not fall down into the cylinder?

Re: Thinking about a cam
Yeah I have heard of that way also.
I just talked to my buddy and he knows a guy that would hook me up on head porting so I think we will just pull the top end apart.
Looks like it will be a three man job, one on the cam, two on the top end and exhaust

Re: Thinking about a cam
If you're going to go with a cam kit... and if you're not on a budget. Go with an XE Grind. I love my cam. I replaced my entire valvetrain and paid like $880 in parts.

is without only pulling to 5450 on a tune for a 112lsa cam running pretty damn lean. I'm hoping for numbers like hers. More actually since i'm going long tubes. But you get the idea
