Thinking about getting a Cam need some advice

Finally getting my retro check from work sometime late next month. My budget is $2k estimate. Here's what i have now:

cai
catback
lt headers not installed yet
sfc's
sz 50 ep tires

Car is a m6 with 3.42 gears (i think)

going to install my headers, y-pipe and new shocks also which cost:

hooker y-pipe $169
header and y-pipe install $450
bilstein hd shocks $329 (4)

total $949 cost

That leaves me with $1051 left for mods

What kind of cam should i be looking at maybe a cc305? Is this enough money for a cam, all the parts i need and a tuning from pcmforless? My car is my daily driver so i would like it to be very streetable. How much power gain do people get with a cam? . Am i going in the right direction with getting a cam? I was thinking about just doing all my suspension work first. I don't have a problem with traction now. Im clueless when it comes to cam and heads and what i need. Im using the search function now. I feel pretty stupid not knowing anything about this stuff but please reply back i need all the help i can get.

thanks

If you are looking for a good streetable cam on a budget, then I would go with the Hotcam. The kit is very affordable(around $500) It's a great kit to wake up your Z on the street. After you get that cam I would get pcmforless.com to give you a good tune, because he has a great tune for the Hotcam. Consider that, or if you want a little bigger go with the Comp Cam 224/230 kit from www.cmotorsports.com You get a little better springs and RR. The kit should only cost about $625.

If you are planning on doind some head work later on then I would definitly get the 224/230 from cmotorsports. I have heard many people say that they regretted getting the Hotcam because it was not enough cam for them. I have heard of one guy running 12.2 with the Hot cam, but thats a good driver and some big tires too.

My buddy has the Hotcam in his 94 A4 and I can beat him pretty good. It's not a bad cam, but it's not too big.

No the cc306 is a pretty big nasty cam for the LT1. It is the 230/244 cam. I wouldn't get the cc306 unless you have some head work done.

Here is a comparison. You have to go down to page 198. Whoops, i see you've already been there. I don't know what you mean they don't break it down that well???

Camshaft part no->
07 means lt1/lt4->
306/502 ect is what we use for lingo->
8 - I'm not sure?

The durations and lifts are right aside of the part numbers.
Oh yeah, also note the recommended applications they list on the left hand side

Is the comp cam 224/230 and the xe 224/230 cam in your sig the same thing? How much horsepower "estimate" would you think i would get going with the 224/230 cam and tuning from pcmforless?

thanks
