Throttle Body

I am doing the 224/230 cam with some ported and polished stock heads, along with 30 lbs injectors and walbro pump, and am understandably running out of funds. Is upgrading to a 52mm TB highly recommended to go along with this setup? Thanks.

Re: Throttle Body

If you're going to go with a TB might as well go 58mm. You will need a tune for either. You won't gain that much power, but your intake will be noticeably louder.

Isn't it goin to hurt him a bit since he's not running any forced induction setup? 52mm seems to be a good choice with a NA setup he's goin for.

Re: Throttle Body

How would it hurt him? He will need to bore the intake either way, a 58mm just flows more air.

Don't have to bore with a 52mm but you do with a 58mm. Mine is being done as we speak. I'm running the XE224/230 as well but with stock heads. I'm installing SVO's 30lb injectors, MSD ignition, 58mm TB with a wet-kit. Costing $100 to have the intake done.

Re: Throttle Body

Oh ok. I thought the stock one was 48mm and would need to bore. I've never looked that closely at mine before though.

Re: Throttle Body

Its not going to hurt him but he doesnt need it. There are plenty of NA 383's with 52MM TB that make no more power with a 58MM TB, at least with the 52 you might not run into the bugs that people who go with a 58mm run into like TPS adjusment and blades sticking.
So why spend the extra money for the more expensive 58mm and the money on the intake to be bored out for no power gains.

Re: Throttle Body

A 58mm TB is like $30 more. If i was going to pay $350 for a throttle body, i would get the biggest one possible. It's go to help a little bit, it makes the intake alot louder, and im sure it has higher re-sale value than a 52mm. There are lots of idiots out there like me who think bigger means more air flow mean more power so they would probably buy it.
