I put them on a month ago, and now I'm getting a slow response code from each O2 sensor. Is it possible that the extensions are bad? Or is it more likely that my O2's got fouled during the first few minutes of the engine running after my header install when the coating smoked? I pulled the O2s yesterday and cleaned them, and the extensions look just like they did when they were new. Should I just change the O2 sensors? Have any of you had a bad experience with thunder racing O2 extensions?

Got them hot with a butane torch and wiped them off with a rag.

They are probably fine. I got the slow response code on both sides after my header install, and I only had an extension on one side.

Turned out both O2's were bad.

Alright, thanks. I'm going to order some new O2's now.

After reading a lot of posts about O2s and new headers, I am about to be convinced that the burning in of new headers is fouling O2 sensors. We all know that they smoke and stink for the first few heat cycles, until all the contaminants are burned off. I would say to use old O2s for new header burn in and then switch to new ones. It wouldn't hurt, just to be on the safe side.

The coatings gases have a tendency to somewhat burn off within the first few heat cycles. When that happens it covers the O2's and then they are ruined. I was lucky enough to find this out before I did my header install. I waited a couple of weeks then put my new O2's in.

So basically it's the same as Shoebox stated. I just verified it.

holy crap, that might be my 02 problem. When i put my jet hots on i put in new 02s and after the install the car ran fine and my af gauge worked fine. then after a couple days my af gauge stayed black and the car would buck and stumble. disconnected the 02s and the car ran fine. been like that ever since. blimey.

Well i just got my headers installed 2 weeks ago and i put new o2's at the same time. My car is running very rich. But i also have a exhaust leak comeing from somewhere and the shop never put collector gaskets on my car and i ran it like that for 2 weeks not knowing. I got the gaskets put in there and now the car smells like something is burning really bad. Its been like this for the last 3 days. Do you think i could of fouled out my o2's? I scanned the car and know code came up except emmission related codes.

Doubtful that it's the extentions. Like I said, Matt, I've got about 77k miles on mine and they've been through a header install. Even though they're still in good working condition, I'm going to replace them soon.

Ah the wise Shoebox............I'm doing the same thing. I'm in the process of swapping from Hooker LT's to RK Sport's (emissions reasons). Since the RK's I put on were freshly Jet-Hot coated I'm gonna run my old O2's for a bit, then swap to new Delco O2's. Shoebox must wear earplugs all the time......its so all that stored knowledge doesn't run out

y do they coat the insides if they burn up......i really dont wann spend another 100 bucks for o2s lol when i instal my headers

Just leave them out and drive it for a few minutes and then install them, and you should be fine. The coating itself doesn't "burn up", it's just "settling in"
