Ticking Noise

I've got what I believe is a vlavetrain noise in my 94Z now. It is a low rpm ticking noise. It speeds up as I go up in rpms and eventually goes away. I don't know a whole lot about internal engine stuff, but I'm thinking possibly rocker backed off or lifter maybe? My Z is bone stock and I run 10W30 Mobil 1 oil. I would appreciate any suggestions on what it may be and how I should go about narrowing it down more or fixing the problem. I have a pretty busy schedule and I don't really have a whole day that I could sit and mess with it. Any input would be appreciated.

sounds like an exhaust leak to me. It goes away after your car warms up due to the metal heating up and expanding, hence sealing the small leak.

I think this is more likely to be a bad lifter. Ofcourse check for the exhaust leak if you can see it. You have to decide wheather the noise is going away with the rising of the rpm and oil preasure (indicating lifter) or the noise is coming from an exhaust leak and you just cant tell if its still ticking cuz the engine just gets to loud to hear it.

when i had the same problem as you are, I checked for leaks right at the manifold first, but the noise was clearly coming from the top of the engine and totaly went away with = or > 30 oil preasure.

I had a ticking noise today from my wire being off a plug. I guess it was arching to something. Oh and it was at low rpms and went away as I reved it higher. Always check the obvious first. Plugs loose, wires on, etc.
