Ticking noise upon start up... Goes away when warm...?!?!?

I'm having an annoyance more than a problem. Upon starting the car, I get a distinct ticking noise that gets faster with me revving the engine. After about 2-4 minutes, once my car is warmed up, it goes away. To me it sounds like an exhaust leak... And my MPG is a little low, so I was thinking my egr pipe had a hole/crack in it. any ideas anyone?

Most of the time the ones I've seen have loose plugs. But you know what PITA they are to get a tool on.

What do you mean, "loose plugs"?

Valvelash could also be an issue if you've got too much clearance on a pushrod. Once the pushrod expands and is filled with warm oil it might expand and take up that slack. Just an idea...

So my question is, is there a temporary fix to seal the manifold? Like maybe JB Weld?? I

They are two seperate issues. I guess I should have stated that in the posts. I know the ticking noise is coming from the egr pipe. The manifold is NOT leaking, the head of the bolt was just broke. The threads were still holding it together. I was just asking if there was something I could do to prevent a future leak from occuring at the manifold due to reduced tightness from broken bolt.

So... Relax! No one is doing the forbidden and double posting in YOUR forum, sir. Peace.

I don't think he's pointing out your double post... I think he's pointing out that you are missing a healthy bolt on your exhaust manifold. Do you seriously think "the threads were still holding it together"? First thing I though when I read the topic was exhaust leak.

So... Relax.
