tightening exhaust manifold bolts
I was wondering. I'm pretty sure that I have an exhaust leak and was wondering what risk I run trying to just tighten the bolts. I really don't want to snap the bolts off in the block. Do you guys think that this may happen? Or should I just change the gasket? Thanks

check to make sure the back bolts are even there. Most of the time they are loose, or the head has totally broken off. This does cause a minor leak, most of the time at colder temps when you first start the car. After everything heats up, it goes away. atleast thats what it did on mine

What makes you think that you're going to snap a bolt? I just removed my stock manifolds and replaced them with headers about 7 months ago. I had no problems removing the bolts. If you're still concerned then spray the bolts down with some Break-Away or something similar the night before and let them soak. I'm pretty sure that you'll have no problems though.

thanks a lot for the encouragement. I just hear so many horror stories about people breaking off the bolts. Sounds like a major PITA, I do my work in a military base auto hobby shop that charges by the hour, whne something goes wrong for me it goes good for them. $Cha-Ching$
