Timing Question
See if you can follow this. I replaced the timing chain in my '95 Z. The timing marks were aligned correclty. The problem is, the timing seems to be off. I say this because up to 2500rpm's the car runs like you know what. Around 3000rpm's it smooths out. Also it heats up quicker than before. A friend of mine suggested that the timing may be off by a few degrees. If I had a normal (non-optispark) distributor( a billet distributor) I could rotate it a few drgrees and this may solve the problem. If you're not familiar with what I'm talking about let me know. Anyway, my friend said that it may be possible to retard the timing electronically, because you can't just turn the distributor like the old stlye(billet). If anyone out there has heard that this is possible, or has any other suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. The thing is, the distributor for the '95 is the newer of the two, anotherwords, it isn't the same one used in the 93 and 94, where they were connected to the camshaft by a splined shaft. On those distributors if you turned it then the timing would be off, but with the '95 you don't have to worry about that because the distributors only went on one way. I'm rambling now and have probably confused anyone that was reading. someone please throw me a line. Thanks

The thing is, if the cam timing is off, so will the ignition timing. As suggested, a look inside the timing cover would probably be the best thing to do. People have also managed to put both styles of opti on wrong, even though both styles are supposed to go on one way.
