Tips on porting an intake.

I just purchased an LT1 intake. I am using it for a project. I had my other intake ported for me. I would like to learn how to do it though. I have already ported the TB opening to fit a 58mm TB. That was pretty easy. Does anyone have any tips for porting the runners of the intake? What they used, how did they get as far in to the intake as they could? Pictures? Or a "how to" website? Let me know. The more I learn at once, the fewer dumb questions I ask.

Check Lingenfelter, I believe they quoted me $150 or so for a full CNC job on my LT1 intake, and I am sure it included openin up the TB surface too

Re: Tips on porting an intake.

I have already done the TB opening. That was easy. I WANT TO LEARN how to port the runners. I don't want to pay someone else to do it. I have already perfected that skill. Any tips, hints, pictures, suggestion?

Re: Tips on porting an intake.

Summit sells a porting kit, it comes with a lil pamphlet with tips in it...the kit is like $30 bucks or somethin, the hard part will be gettin all the runners to flow and shape the same, where as the CNC is precise, and can do the whole intake even the inside, where you can't reach by hand....I have the pamphlet lying somewhere around here, if you want me to type it to ya email me a blank email requesting it @ XxXTransAm2@aol.com

Where does the Indy F-body group hang out at? Do you guys have a regular meeting place on the weekends?

Check to see how the gasket matches the heads. Use that to estimate how to shape the gasket surface. Raise the top of the runner until you hit air, then weld up the holes.

Re: Tips on porting an intake.

Thanks for the tips. We haven't been meeting a whole lot. My car has been apart for a while. Other than IRP on Tuesdays, I don't think I have ever met as a large group. I mean there are a few guys (in my sig website) that I alsways cruise with, but all the INDY f-bodies need to get together and cause some damage.
