BFG KDW is an awesome rain/dry tire. The KDWS is a snow tire (something you shouldn't be concerned with in California). A little expensive though but well worth it.

I hear kumho's are good cheap tires.. I don't think I'd go much cheaper than those. With tires I'd say you usually get what you pay for...
