Too Cool??

In the midst of everyone running too hot, it seems im opposite. Yesterday about 95 out, i drove it about 70 miles with ac on and the hottest i saw the gauge go was right at 160. 70 miles with no ac resulted in gauge barely getting above 140. My questions are, could the gauge be faulty, or should i have no cause for concern, and what are some problems with running too cool? My car is a 93 Z28 so the temp gauge starts at 100. Don't know what t-stat is in it, still retains automatic fans, unsure if its had computer tune (doubt it). Thanks.

Re: Too Cool??

It could be the gauge or the thermostat. Shoebox has a writeup on his site on how to test the sensor with an ohmmeter (or last I checked he did), if it's not that then it's the thermostat. Chances are if the fans are turning on then it's just the gauge unless your fans turn on before 225*. From my experience the temp gauge isn't very accurate anyway, mine says 160 and it's really 140, just before the red seems to be about 225-230, although I haven't seen it that high in a long time.
