Transmission problems HELP!
Well was racing a ford today and tryed to go from 2nd to 3rd and the guy behind me said that the reverse lights came on....and the car acted like it wasn't in gear but it was in the 3rd gear slot.....i had to pull the shifter out with both hands because it was stuck.....It has been acting up for about a week now.....like it is hard as hell to get into reverse.....After the race...i just started to drive it normally and it acted fine...went into every gear but reverese is still hard to get into....what is the matter with this thing syncro's? thanks for your help.

It's pretty hard to get into reverse but doesn't make any grinding noises.....I drives like it is suppose to until i step on it and then it acts up......it won't go into 3rd it seems with anything above 5k rpms......How much does syncro's usually run to have put in or is it easy enough for me to do my self.....Thanks for your help

Reverse is not a syncronized gear. It should go in with a little effort, but if it's giving you a hard time (like mine used to), try putting it in 1st gear and then into reverse. Putting it in 1st, first, allows the gears to sync up & it should go in easy then. Or you may have bent a shift fork or something. Good luck!

Your reverse lights come on when your rev. switch is tripped when the trans is in reverse. You may have a wiring problem. A hard shift into 3rd may be a bent shift fork or the clutch didn't fully disengage. The aluminum forks don't fare well under abuse but are ok with normal driving. Are you sure you did't hit reverse? I know it's hard to do from 2nd.

I had this same problem. The stick takes two hands to get it into reverse, and also, while I am driving, at times it seems like someone unhooks the driveshaft, then jams it back in. The whole car would buck. Had the tranny tore down, two days ago actually, and the guy said that nothing is wrong. The bearings looked brand new, the syncros looked brand new, nothing was bent, shift forks were fine, as were the pads on them. He found no metal in it at all. He said that my clutch looked pretty bad, and that when I put it back in, to put in a new clutch, lube the splines on the input shaft of the tranny with Synthetic caliper grease, as well as the throw out bearing and clutch fork. Also, I had the tranny rebuilt by D&D last year. Make sure that if you put on that grease on the shaft and stuff, to emery cloth it first, and not to put too much on!!
