Trouble Starting Righ Away

so, im back into an fbody.

the one i bought is nearly perfect, save for one tiny issue. when starting the car, she needs a few extra cranks, and even then is slow getting to her feet. after about 3 seconds, though, the car seems absolutely fine. idle picks up to its proper rpm range and note. idle does seem very VERY very slightly rough...either that or i dont remember what my '94 felt like. under driving conditions and mashing the pedal, she is exactly what you would expect from an LT1 . only mod is a shift kit.

the guy i bought it from told me it was explained to him by a mechanic buddy as a compression issue. he was just a rich guy with limited knowledge, so he heard his friend out when he said it wasnt serious.

it doesnt bother me too much...i just want to see how serious it could be and what it might be attributed to.

there is no CEL. i dont think its a clogged cat or a fuel pump issue...she is just fine on idle and under the pedal. those first 5 seconds of coming to life are just a struggle, it seems. no optispark issues from what i can tell, either. i dont think he put premium in it, so i think that could be making the car act wierd. ive noticed less occurances since she was refilled with premium a couple times. perhaps disconnecting the battery terminal and reseting the fuel trims and such can help?

any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Re: Trouble Starting Righ Away

A common cause of extended starting is the fuel pressure bleeding off too fast. Put a fuel pressure gauge on it, turn the key to "on" (not start) to prime the system, and when the pump shuts off see how long it takes the fuel pressure to bleed off.

Re: Trouble Starting Righ Away

Ya could turn the ign switch on and off twice or three times and see if it cranks easier. That should tell ya if it is bleeding down or does not prime correct.
