Trying to remember the difference in LT1s by year

My car is a 94 LT1 M6 and the motor blew.

In order not to spend $$$ on a built motor I am just going to get a motor out of another F-body, so I was trying to remember the differences by year.

I would like to continue using my 94 computer/wiring harness/OBD1 MAF fuel injection setup, but I will be going to vented opti.

93: Speed Density, is this just a plug and play setup after switching to my 94 MAF computer?

95: Vented opti which includes different timing cover and cam. Is that it?

96-97: OBD2 plus Vented opti. Seems like there was a crank position sensor as well. So, if I pulled a motor out of one of these cars and just did not use that sensor would run properly?

Also the EGR and AIR are deleted.

Thanks for the help.

93: Not sure

95: I think that's it.

96-97: It does have a crank position sensor. This sensor is for check only and does not affect the performance of the engine.

I have a book at home (I'm at work right now), that goes through year by year the differences. I think it's called "How to rebuild the LT1 engine". I would recommend purchasing one. I got mine through Eckler's.

block+ heads from all the years are basicaaly the same, If you use a 92-93 LT1, you would need to change the oil sending unit, and probably easiest way would be to swap your intake since there are a bunch of differences, EGR, fuel line connections, injector size, Tb connections ect. and of course the timing cover opti etc.

LT1 Diffs

september1999 http://www.automotive rebuilder.com/ar/ar/99928.htm had a good article about the year to year differences in the LT1 engine. Cam button is one, opti vented in the newer models, hotter cam on the stock 97 and of course the LT4, iron heads on the caprice.....
I have a printout of it. The web address I gave you is no longer a good one. Let me know, and I can scan it and send it in an email attachment. Article written by Doug Anderson.

1993-You must swap your intake manifold and oil pressure sending unit
1994-Direct swap
1995-Vented Opti, make sure you are ready to buy a new Optispark if the engine does not include one, also a different optispark harness (the short connector harness that leads to the main engine harness)
1996-1997-OBD II, you will need to use your '94 harness, Vented opti-same info as 1995, these years also have misfire detection, this means the timing cover is different (has a crankshaft position sensor), has a reluctor ring in front of the crank gear, timing chain and balancer are different due to reluctor ring.

If you use a 1995-1997 engine and you want to use your 1994 Optispark, you will have to change the timing cover, timing chain and camshaft.
