TTop Conversion, Yes or NO, No turning back

Well i don't have ttops and I am interested in adding them in. Basically I've wanted a car with ttops since i was very small. I was kind of mad when the nicest camaro i found that i liked didnt have them. Well I can buy a set or not please tell me your experiences and what i should do.

Ive talked to people who have done it and they have been supportive and they say it wasnt too bad. I know its really not all that hard to do but does take time and can be tough at certain parts. I have all the necessary tools and can use them proficiently. Well, should i do the conversion or not? I think i can get a decent deal on the whole package from a local seller so I think it be worth it.

Pros:
Fulfill one of my life dreams
Fun to have
Look good
Chick magnet
Pretty much a convertible that has some protection on top.

Cons:
Can possibly weaken frame and cause it to twist
Risky in the fact
Will rattle and possibly leak
Can cause rust
May turn out badly

I say don't do it. I think the Hardtops look 100x's better. I hate my ttops and never use them. I bet they've been off only about 5x's in the 3 yrs i've owned my car. I'll tell you what we both have black cars. You drive to kansas and swap my motor, rearend, hood, spoiler, and rims to your car and i'll let you have my ttop car for free.

I also say a car with out T-Tops looks alot better. I say don't do it. I also have T-Tops and use them but there isn't much to them. I say leave it as it is and do something else with the money. Once you have them, it's not a big thing. You might even end up wanting to go back but you can't. Up to you.

I'd rather have a no T-Tops then T-Tops. Reason why? Less bending, less noise and rattle in the car, alot less of everything and alot of people including myself don't really take them off. I just don't like how it looks with them off.

I have no experience with T-tops. I say don't do it though. I know a guy with an older camaro who had so much torque he popped a t-top off on the highway when he floored it. I mean that is actually really cool, definate muscle show, but that goes to show you that the frames are weaker with t-tops.

The 4th gens were designed with T-Tops in mind, your hard top is just a plastic cover and adds nothing to the structural rigidity.

Yes the 2nd and 3rd gen cars would twist, but they used a steel roof as part of the unibody to keep the car tight.

In a third gen you could not get the L98 with T's because it would twist.

The LT1 is more powerful and T's were factory installed, that should tell you how solid the 4th gen is.

No squeeks, rattles or leaks from mine(the handles rattle once in a while) in 100,000 miles.

You want them, do them. Add some subframe connectors if you want it tight.

Thanks for the info.

I also have to cut out two steel bars that are supports on the side, would these contribute a lot to rigitidy?

sorry guys....i gotta have my T-Tops!

120K miles and no leaks, rattles, or any other problems with them.

the weather is bad *** in Houston right now and I'm really enjoying crusin' around with them off

only time they leak is in the car wash and even then it's not bad. But I prefer
to hand wash anyway

You could always get a roll cage to increase structural integrity

I don't own an F-Body without T-Tops. It just wouldn't be the same....
