turning down the crankshaft

What is the most you can get the rod journals turned down on the crank?

Re: turning down the crankshaft

Not sure but looking into rebuild kits, they come up to .030 under for rods, and .020 under for mains. I haven't seen any more than that. This is the only basis for this answer however.

Re: turning down the crankshaft

hmm... i think the damage that is done to my crank is worse than that... http://photobucket.com/albums/a129/hallbilly/

there are a few pictures... guess i need to invest on some good measuring tools.

It looks unusable to me... but my eyes are not that calibrated!

Is a cast eagle crank a good replacement for ~420 rwhp and 6500 rpm?

Can't tell by the pics, but you should take it to a couple of machine shops and see what they say.

Re: turning down the crankshaft

i usually dont bother grinding cranks anymore. the scat and eagle stuff is just so cheap it comes out about the same cost of regrinding the old one. its also pretty much the same with rods. that and i'd rather run good rods and bolts and floating pins to save me the cost of having the pistons pressed on and off the rods and having them reworked.

Re: turning down the crankshaft

Should be able to find a GM forged truck crank for a decent price. One piece rear of course.

Re: turning down the crankshaft

well the first one was on my 91 rs... that was my mistake, overheated the oil and did not know much about anything when i was that young. this time I do not know why i had oil problems but when i put it back together i want that thing to be able to handle some pretty decent rpms for a long period of time.
