Upgrade from hotcam???

Can someone recommend an upgrade from the hotcam that is worth doing to my car? Ive had this setup in my car for years and i would like to get a little more out of it without going into the motor. Is there a cam that would give me between 20-30 more horsepower and still drive decent and be reliable? Also what kind of springs would i need for this also? Could i still use my gmpp 1.6 rockers? Im trying to keep the lt4 heads on that i have now. Any replies or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Personally, I would yank the heads and have a professional port them. You could have the HP your looking for and it would still be mild mannered. Then later if you want "more" HP, step up to a bigger cam. That way you won't be restricting the motor with the heads, the way they are now.

Pulling the heads is about 80-90% of the work of a cam swap in my opinion. You
can reach your goal with head work and just keep the hotcam. If you do upgrade
just the cam the next step is the CC503 or GM846 as stated above.

A cam swap does not require the heads to be pulled.

No, but you do get to leave the front and bottom of the engine intact.

My car is not a dd as it sits in the garage with only 30k. I would still like for it to have pretty good street manners. I am leaning towards the cc503. What do I need to upgrade on my heads? New springs I'm guessing? Can I keep the gmpp 1.6 rr's? If I do the cam only and keep my stock lt4 heads how much better (more power) will my car be? Again thanks for any responses.

save up

put the 503 cam in and do the heads at the same time.

if you can't wait that long, spray it

actually to get the timing cover off you have to remove all the bolts on the oil pan execept the last 2 in the back so it drops down. the timing cover has a lip on the inside and you will for sure tear your lower timing cover gasket if you don't.
its not really that bad tho, just get the first 3 on each side from the front of the engine and then come in from behind to get the remaining ones should take you maybe 15 minutes.

ummm i believe he was saying that you don't have to get the timing chain cover or the oil pan off/loosened to do a head swap.
