Some spares can weigh more than a real set of skinnies! I also know that a regular spare is only good for around 50mph!

You could use a 15" spare found on the 93-96 fbodies along with a 165R 15 tire (old VW beetle tires) which you can get for $25 each at Pepboys, that tire is speed rated to 118mph. I have those tires on my Centerline telstar 15x4 wheels as an inexpensive front skinny combo just for the track. My car came with the 16" spare and I found out you cant get any other tires in that size like you can with the 15". You will probably pass inspection with the spare rim and VW tires, I thought about it then finally decided I didn't want to deal with the hassle of the tech inspectors at some tracks I go to. I just know they would have some issue with the spare rim. (Not to mention they would look like *** of course )

They will not pass tech at the tracks I race at. 50mph rating going over 100? Plus they are heavy.

The 50 mph rating is only for the tires, it's printed right on them. I don't think there is a problem using the stamped steel wheel with a suitable new tire. I'm not trying to convince anyone to do it, but it should work if you wanted to. Hell I've seen pics and heard of Mustang guys running their spares without even replacing the cheapo tire! They don't have any warning printed in theirs like ours from what I hear, if that works I'm pretty sure this would.

Actually, when I was considering this I weighed my spare, it was about 27 lbs. This was the bigger 16" spare that came with 97 and up Fbodies. With a "real" tire on it probably would have been another 1-2lbs I would guess.

My 15" telstar and tire is about 26lbs so there is not that much difference, fwiw.

I guess you could use the wheels with different tires if you really wanted to. They would probably be small and have a very short rollout.
