There's quite a chunk taken out of the ones that I have. Basically what they are is the generic centerbolt valve covers and someone cut out and welded in a new section to clear the alternator. It's a professional version of what you'd do yourself. I don't think you'd want to beat on the aluminum very much, though.

also, look into the LT4 composite. they are a matte black and are said to reduce false knock......~$190.00ish

You can paint the stock ones you have and save the money for other mods. Take a look i sand blasted and then painted/cleared.http://cam355z.cz28.com. on page 2 i think. They have some in jegs as well black or chrome.

I wouldn't pound on aluminum either. But the triple chrome plated ones I got were from Summit. The metal isn't that thick, but it just needed some pounding. It didn't take more than a few minutes including stop and check time. No leaks.

I should add that these were a gift and there was now way of returning them. But, it really isn't that bad of a procedure.
