valve springs and lift

valve springs and lift
Ok i'm putting in a custom ground CC that I bought for cheap. I'm keeping the stock rockers for maybe as long as a year. But I will get some rollers, maybe 1.5 maybe 1.6. I'd like to know what springs would work for all three rockers. And would 1.5 or 1.6 be better on stock heads. Basically is too much lift a bad thing?

Re: valve springs and lift
Thats a small cam, you may be okay with the stock springs. Im sure someone will know what the stock springs are good up to. But if you are going to do springs you probably should throw on some 918 beehives. Its a real popular spring that is good up to .600 lift. With 1.6 RR's your lift is still very low. 1.6 RR's will be better for ya.

Re: valve springs and lift
Nope stock springs won't work. The hot cam only goes to .525 with 1.6 rr's, and that needs new springs. I wouldn't even use the LT-4 springs with that cam. I think crane makes some good to .540 lift. The lift you specified, is that with 1.6 rr's already fugured in. If not, and you get 1.6's, that will make the lift bigger.

Re: valve springs and lift
The stock springs wont work for sure with that lift as mentioned. One thing that shoud not be overlooked is if the stock rockers are able to coupe with this lift, stock rocker is lift limited by the length of its slot. If that's the case then the least damage can be bent pushrods.

Yes the intake has the bigger lift. I'm not sure why (nitrous maybe?). I thought it was better than nothing and i got it dirt cheap. So how do I find out if my stock rockers will work?

The beehive springs might be worth looking into, ask Comp Cams.
To much lift isn't a bad thing unless valves start hitting pistons.

Re: valve springs and lift
You need a healthy valve spring and good rockers to run that cam.
214 @ .050 with .353 lobe lift (.530 w/ 1.5's, .560 w/ 1.6's)
That's ethier a XFI lobe or a 3190, both of which need really good springs, good pushrods, good rockers and 7/16 studs.... it's far from a bolt in unless you want to break a lot of parts.

Re: valve springs and lift
well .... can you make some recomendations on springs and pushrods? Or are you agreeing with the call Comp comment? This is going in a daily driver and I consider myself pretty easy on my car.
Thanks

Re: valve springs and lift
Yeah, either a set of 977's with Ti retainers or a set of Beehives with steel retainers would work. I always run Comp Hi Tech 5/16 pushrods or better, and I would also do a set of Comp Pro Mags with 7/16 studs if I was running that intake lobe.
