Unhappy VATS issue? Help please

This is what happened. The original power distribution under the hood that has a red cap was all busted up, so I put in a regular Stinger power block to replace it. I had no problems after the install, the car fired right up three times. I did have to cut the round terminals off the fusible links that plug into the power distribution in order to hook them into the power block. The car did start three times. I then went to lock the car with the remote and typically it honks two short times. This time it barely honked once, so I thought maybe I just had a loose connection, except now the car won't start, there is no power to anything but the light on the dash for the theft system and the box under the passenger side dash just sits there and ticks. I've checked all connections and they're good, checked all fuses in the side of the dash and under the hood, they're all good. When you turn the key to on, there just isn't any power to anything. The light just flashes really quick and the VATS box just ticks. What do I do?

Re: VATS issue? Help please

My experience with the VATS system is that the security light on the dash will be illuminated all the time if the VATS computer is preventing the car from cranking & starting.
My guess is that your problem is related to the replacement of the power distribution block, a bad or loose connection perhaps. When you cut off the old terminals, did you strip fresh wire for the new terminals? Were the new terminals crimped with the correct crimper jaw size, so the terminal crush is neither too much nor too little? Generally a soldered connection will have lower resistance, but a properly done crimp terminal should be fine. Lastly, did you disconnect the main battery terminal(s) when you did the distribution block? I can't count the number of times I thought my battery connections weren't the problem, when in fact they were....
If you've got a good multimeter, I'd start by checking resistance & voltages on both sides of the distribution block, then move on from there.
Good luck & post up the solution when you find it. It's always good to know what actually fixed these things,
cheers,
Ian

Re: VATS issue? Help please

Well good news guys. I had a battery relocation kit installed, and the power cable from the battery they installed was grounding out somewhere, causeing the front of the car to not get full power to activate anything else. No VATS issue here thank god.
