Question Voltmeter drop with acceleration

Within the past week, I've been noticing, when I accelerate , that my voltmeter is dropping into the red, and when I get up to speed it stays constant where it's supposed to be. Has anybody had this problem before, and if so, what was the problem and how did you fix it?

I would say it is likely the alternator. Might want to get it tested.

http://ls1speed.com type in your car and click electrical and its the tenth one down.. might help ya.. I have it on my car and i get some better throttle response... check your altenator though and if it turns out ok i dunno.. More than likely i would say its the regulator in the altenator...V-Plus Volt Booster
Your alternator is designed to put out a specific voltage, generally 13.8 volts. The only problem is when there's a greater demand on the electrical system, such as a WOT blast, the alternator falls a little short. The V-Plus is designed to overcome voltage taper at WOT by stepping up the alternator voltage 2.2v. at 70% throttle. Result? More power to your fuel pump and ignition system. Unit plugs in, with no wires to cut or tap into.

also check your terminals... might be a bad connection... they sell terminal cleaners in an auto parts store for like 2 bucks..

The belt could be slipping. When you floor it, it could slip on the crank pulley and the alt. would stop turning until you maintain a speed and the belt turns again. Just a thought, a new belt is cheap and easy.

Exclamation Voltmeter Drop Under Acceleration

All this happens under normal driving conditions, no WOT or flooring it!

I agree with all of the suggestions so far, but one more to consider is a failing harmonic balancer. If the balancer is seperating from the pulley it will slip under heavy load and cause the alternator to spin at a slower rate ... this happened on my brothers '97 Z28.

Just a thought .........
