Walbro/Fuel Bucket question

Ok I'm basically done the Walbro install but I didn't use the bucket.

The bucket keeps fuel around the pump at all times.

Helps in cooling on hot days when the fuel is low too I guess.

How important is it to use the bucket?

This Walbro is not gonna fit at all.

I would have to grind the crap out of the bucket to make it fit.

Is it worth it?

Cons?

I'm not sure how much bigger the Walbro pump is over the Racetronix Walbro pump but I had to grind the inside of the bucket to get that one to fit too. It's just the fins on the inside that have to come out. It was very easy.
I don't know how important the bucket really is but I bet Jack from Racetronix will reply to this.

Hmm.

I'll try grinding the fins out.

I have a pump made for a Ford. But making it work with GM is a breeze.

Exclamation

The function of the bucket has been covered in many posts on this forum. A search will bring them up.

The ribs at the bottom of the bucket can be trimmed with a long pair of side cutters. They do not have to be completely removed. Just enough to provide clearance at the bottom of the bucket.

I do not recommend using an off-the-shelf Walbro pump in the bucket as it will not seal properly in the bucket's bottom checkvalve assembly. Racetronix LT1 pumps are machined and fitted with a gas resistant o-ring to make a perfect seal. If the pump does not seal it can suck air or unfiltered gas which will cause the pump to fail.

So is it a big deal not to use the bucket?

well, I used the bucket in mine, and it was an off the shelf walboro...never had any problems with it. basically I just used the stock rubber gasket, trimmed down to fit the walboro.

... and how do you know 100% that the pump is not sucking unfiltered fuel from within the bucket?
