Want to hit 500+HP/TQ need setup ideas

Hey everyone, right now I'm running a 383 stroker with a LT4 hot cam and ported LT1 heads, I will be sending off a set of LT4 heads to Lloyd Elliot for his LE3 package. My goal obviously is 500+HP/TQ and I was wondering if the LE3 head and cam package will get me there. I know that the heads will support it but I'm not so sure about the cam that comes with that package. I've got all the supporting mods that I think I would need (42lb fuel injectors, bigger fuel pump,LT headers and cutout, 58 mm TB, LT4 Intake manifold going off with the heads to be port matched) and I will obviously be getting a dyno or mail order tune after I have everything on. Anybody with experience in this matter I would greatly appreciate some advice.

Would that be 500 flywheel HP, or 500 rwHP? If its rwHP, what's your drivetrain consist of?

The LT4 heads can support over 600FWHP but the rest of your intake system has to be spot on as a stock LT1 intake will take 12-15+% away from your head flow.LT4 a little less. 500TQ is also doable ya better cam it UP cause ya are gonna need it,somewhere in the upper 250@50 range with .675-.700 lift on a 108+4. Ya also need about 12-12.5 to 1 static compression ratio for a DCR of right at 9 to 1 on pump gas and the TFS have large chambers(62CC's I think). This should put ya right at 500RWHP if that's what ya want.

it's going to be really, really difficult (but doable) with a hydraulic roller setup, if you're dead set on 500rw, i'd plan for a solid roller

You could always spray it.

500 wheel isnt easy on an LTx motor. With LT4 heads fully ported and a ported manifold... you might be able to get 500 wheel through a M6.

It wouldnt be the norm though.

If ya build it to do it it is the norm. As I said earlier the heads are capable of 600+FWHP and everything else spot on, it will take 590FWHP to do it with an auto.

Re: Want to hit 500+HP/TQ need setup ideas

I've got an M6 so i'm not real worried about the drivetrain, I'll most likely be switching to 4.10 gears as well. The intake manifold is going to port matched to the heads. I'm not familiar with solid roller cams, what types of modification will I need to do to make one run in the car seeing as how alot of accessories are cam driven in the LT1

Nothing,just put the cam in.
Ya DO want very high quality cam bearings for the extra spring pressure. Clevitte "H" series coated or APC aluminum bearings.

You will need alot more than port matching. If I remember right, Lloyd removes about 2 pounds or more aluminum from the runners when he fully ports an LTx intake.

How much more can the heads and intake be ported after the LE3 package?

Re: Want to hit 500+HP/TQ need setup ideas

I have heard of people getting 300+CFM from stock castings and wrenched on an engine that suposedly had a set.The guy had a bunch in these heads and they had been welded on a bunch and needed offset shaft rockers.
Ya would be better off with a set of aftermarket heads and intake if ya need more than the 280CFM that the LE3 are supposed to have.
300CFM through the intake SYSTEM(what the piston sees) will make roughly 600FWHP. To do this ya have to have head flow above 300 as even a sheet metal will take 3-6% of that away if ya are N/A. The air filter and CAI all figure in on this too.
The 383 with the stock castings with one of my cams went a 10.4 in the 1/4 mile and wasn't fully tuned before he put it on the bumper and wrecked it. It had a 9.90 in it.It also had a FAST system and slicks(1.34-60ft)

I wasn't asking about the drivetrain because I was worried about it... I was asking so we could figure what kind of drivetrain losses you had, in order to figure what kind of flywheel HP you need to make to meet your goal of 500rwHP (I assume that is what you are after). With the M6, you'll need about 575 flywheel.
