Want my 383 to be emissions legal

Hey all, it's been a while since I worked on my Formula due to a job relocation form Boston to Fairfax, VA. Specs are in my sig.

I'll be moving to a larger apartment with an attached garage in a couple of months, and would like to start working on my Formula again. My main concern is making my 383 emissions-legal so that I no longer have the headaches associated with finding someone to pass me. Virginia only gives 30 days to pass the emissions inspection after registering an auto.

My plan is to swap out the CC306 with something a lot milder and less lopey. The 306 is way to loud, which caused me to install THREE twister mufflers (3.5" in place of the cat, and two 2.5" right before the tips) in addition to the muffler that came with my Flowmaster AT cat-back. The result isn't bad, much quieter, but the sound is a little muted although people have complimented me on the sound. Also, there is a ton of cam surge under 2000 RPM since the 306 is all top-end.

I'm looking for a very streetable cam with 114 LSA that will start making power at around 2000 RPM. I'm also open to the idea of new heads. The LE2's valve seals are leaking lots of oil, causing blue smoke at startup and during shifting at higher RPMs.

What options do I have so that I'll be able to pass emissions and keep as much HP on the table as possible?

One more thing, my compression is pretty low right now, I think maybe around 9.75:1, although I need to double-check it. I'm toying with the idea of adding a SC -- kinda makes sense with me trying to find a mild cam and already having low compression, right?

You could try an emissions cam from Lloyd. It's close to a CC 503 but with more lift, 112 LSA, and makes good power. The heads won't hurt you for emissions, you might just consider changing the valve seals.

I'm not sure how much a SC effects emissions, you might try the Forced Induction section.

If your going to be taking apart your motor anyway you could sell your current heads for something with larger chambers, than you could drop plently of compression. But even with a headgasket you should be able to get to 9.5.1.

I would toss is a smaller blower cam and look for a used s trim or a smaller procharger. You could pick up all lost hp from the smaller cam, probably even gain some some and still pass emissions in VA.

If you get an intercooled setup or go with meth injection you can really make some power.

I think I'm definitely leaning towards 114 LSA to be on the safe side.

Without a blower I would probably get the cc503, but since I really want a SC, I think I'll look at blower cams on 114 LSA. I really don't want to spend a lot of $$$, unless I find a good heads/cam package that'll really make it worth while.

I have some time to decide, as I need to pull my top end apart first

the 114lsa will make it pretty emissions friendly. But its not everything.

As for finding a cheap blower, the market falls 500 pts everyother day, rebounds but never that much. If you stay on top of the FS section you will find some steals in the coming months.
