wanting to build a 383 (396) FI LTx, need advice

Hi guys,

Im currently messing around with a 500 rwhp stock ported head / LT header / hotcam stock bottom end LT1 w/ a p600b blower running 11 psi max boost and meth injection. 60 lb/hr injectors w/ racetronix walbro 340 (255 l/hr) pump. All thru a 6 speed.

Im starting to think about my next build and need advice.

I envision an all forged 383 ltx (maybe even a 396) @ 20 psi boost. 9.5:1 compression, AFR 210cc eliminator competition ported heads, blower cam (but needs to pass sniff test), and possibly a bigger blower (Im talking an F-1 or bigger). 1.7:1 scorpion roller rockers, meizere electric water pump, Prob. also an aftermarket computer.

I may even consider solid roller.

Do you all have any advice or can you give me some specs/numbers about members running this type of engine.

Prob be about a $12k budget ( i hope).

btw. this will be on a 93 c4 corvette.

Your budget is wildly unrealistic for your plan.

What are our goals for the car and maybe we can help you with a realistic plan withing your budget to get you there.

About a week would be my best guess.

that $12k might build the boost ready shortblock, a set of aftermarket heads and the roller cam set up.

Another $12k would get the supercharger kit, computer and tuning

Another $10k would get the fuel system, headers, and some supporting driveline goodies for the power level you will be at.

That's just my vision of your great build idea - really - it would be killer, just expensive.

OK, i need to set a goal here.... and that is 700 to 800 rwhp. Yes, I know theres a big diff between 700 and 800 rwhp, so I will define it like this. Pump gas 93 octane: 700 rwhp. Race gas (or E85) 800 rwhp

agreed. definitely expensive. Always double about what you think it will cost.
Sometimes it helps when you find someone who just built up the baddest motor they could (that also fits your preferences) and then buys a house, wife have a baby, etc. and now they need to sell it for 1/2 what they put into it.

I see that scenario over and over.

Also, while a p600b (similar 1200 cfm output like vortech t-trim) may not push this motor I talk about building to the edge of its envelope, its still going to make a lot of power.

Since I already have all the custom bracketry (6+8 ATI superdamper installed) on my LTx, I can re-use the p600b if finances are tight. At least until I can afford a bigger blower and custom bracketry.

In the meantime, lets focus on stuff like what heads should I be using?

AFR 210cc eliminator (large cc head to minimize piston dishing) w/ competition ported
or Trickflow - Advanced Induction 212cc 21 degree head ?

Compression? Ive heard lower compression motors (where they spend 99% of their time on the street) run like a dog w/ bad gas mileage. So...Im thinking 9.5:1 compression and 20 psi max boost.

Cam...Ive got something in the 224/236 114 to 115 LSA .575ish lift range. Scorpion 1.7:1 roller rockers w/ guideplates

Solid roller or hydraulic? Yeah, if I could have 7000 rpm potential thats a lot of extra power on the table. If it means adjusting lash every few thousand miles thats fine. I have tools and a garage. I do all the work myself anyways.

Throttle body: AS&M monoblade. I already have this installed and its a great high quality piece w/ excellent street manners.

meizere electric water pump (this ok for a forced induction application)?

special extra cool radiator?

Canton road race oil pan / Mellings HV pump.

meth system..prob a 100% meth setup. My existing meth system can handle that fine.

Fuel pump...hmmm... my current single pump racetronix walbro 340 255 l/hr prob wont cut it, but maybe a dual walbro 240 setup w/ 2nd pump tied into a hobbs switch to come on at say 4 psi boost....

Fuel lines... Not sure if the f-bodys have fuel return lines, but my 93 corvette has the 3/8" fuel line and return line. Its not a bad setup and prob wont need any fuel line mods for my goals.

Crank.. Callies forged or lunati 4340 forged
Rods...Luinati pro billet 6.0"
Pistons...forged 2618 alloy of some sort w/ dish to achieve my desired compression ratio.

oh! and I do all the tuning myself so that saves money.

Though, Ill prob want to step up to a FAST of Accel DFI which is another expense (app. $2k~!!)

Anyone know a good lt1 bottom end builder? Ive heard mixed reviews about Golen's (dont know what to believe). Ive heard good stuff about arizona speed and marine.

Re: wanting to build a 383 (396) FI LTx, need advice

Second Street Speed in Perkasie PA has built several high boost S/C'd 383ci LT1's making more than 1,000HP at the flywheel. They know exactly what it takes.

The one I'm most familiar with made 1,125HP at the flywheel. It did not require a monoblade (58mm BBK worked fine), used a stock oil pump (blueprinted, 80psi spring) and pan, did not use an electric water pump, BeCool radiator highly modified Canfield heads, blower was a custom X-trim unit from Vortech (got it free, in return for providing Vortech with requested tech data, and right to use his car in advertisements), Callies Stealth crank, Oliver 5.85 billet rods, BME custom pistons, SCR was somewhere in the 9.0-9.5 range, turned 8,000rpm, used a MoTeC ECU with 8 channel ignition driver and 8 LS1 coils, swapped the T56 for an Art Carr TH400..... etc.

Cost a lot more than what you have in mind.
