waterpump thread...
ok ive never had a waterpump go out but i just bought another z, the car overheats....it pumps no coolant at all, from the steam tube...also i o[pened the bleeder valves wide open and no air is comming out, radiator is full...
now on my toy z28 i did have the waterpump gear strip before and it would not flow coolant...very similar...
when a waterpump normally goes out and leaks from the weephole does it still pump fluid and leak or what?
im trying to get an idea whats wrong, i know no mater what i need the waterpump off...but hey i got the z for 1k!

Ive never had one do this to me before, but my pump went out not to long ago and was gushing water from the weep hole, like Niagra Falls. Still pumping though, didnt overheat till coolant got low. Now several years back I had the splined sleeve strip on me and the temp guage went way past the red, not long after replacing the pump. Ever since that event I always relplace the sleeve with pump.

When you say no coolant is pumping, did you look in the radiator to see if coolant was flowing or are you just talking about undoing the line to the vent tube and nothing came out? Pull the thermastat so you can rule that out. I would also pull the radiator and make sure it isn't clogged up and flush the block out incase there is any crap in there.

I'm guessing this is on a 94 lt1....
so here's a good link on the reverse flow..

pump may or may not pump if water is leaking from the weep hole...
pull the thermosate housing. is there a thermostate in it? if not that could be a bad thing...either way stuff a new one in and see if that helps the problem..
When you change the water pump, then do yourself a favor,,,pull the radiator and take it to the shop to be checked out...they do get clogged up...

thers nothing flowing in the radiator...theres a new radiator in it, and a new thermo, but the steep pipe should pump fuid all the time, this one does not, i think ill pull the cover off the pump and see what its doing, but has anyone had this problem before?
