Weight reduction ditching the catback???
Just wondering what they weight and what's worth removing? I have the stock exhaust right now with just a cutout. I was thinking of just ditching the entire catback because I never cap the cutout ever. Thought about a little weight reduction, unfortunately it would be in the rear but any weight loss counts right? On another note, when I install the LT's I have an offroad pipe for it, which will drop a little weight without the cats. Anyway I plan on going true duals, how much less does this weight than the current catback, if at all? I know it's not the first place to look for cutting weight. It was just something I was thinking about since the exhaust is gonna change anyway. Thanks

If you can live with a loud car and the cops don,t hassle you go for it.
I am running purple horny header mufflers now and ditched all the hardware and heat shielding for the exhaust.
I will be changing to Lowbaks soon and just exiting before the axle with turndowns.
Its your car do what you want.

I ditched the catback and it weighed 40#'s but I also lost some traction so I am putting it back on . I was just going to try it and it didn't help. My 60' slowed and so did my 1/8th mi. times. I wemt from 12.00's to 12.20's but the weather was a little better when I ran 12.00's. But I lost 60' and 1/8th so I know it was spinning. Later Clint

Obviously, weight reduction is a plus, however, weight distribution is important. Lts' iron block makes the front heavier than the back, unlike the Ls1 and vettes.
A stock Lt1 can pull stumps, but the weight distribution doesn't favor putting that power to the ground.
I'd sooner add weight to the rear to enhance traction, than merely subract weight from the rear to reduce overall weight.JMHO
