Well... blew the head gaskets...

And so now I have another project sitting in my garage, need to still take off the heads, hopefully everything is fine.

Anyway. I wanted to know what you guys think I should expect after I finish up.

So far I have a Hooker Catback 160º stat and not much else, car has 125k on the clock, but runs strong. The only time I ran the car, it ran like a 14.6 @ 99.6mph, good mph, weak ET. Anyway, I've got the following being shipped to me and some machine work being done on the heads.

EX Components/Combination Motorsports top end kit (springs, retainers, locks, seals)
Comp Cams Pro Magnum Roller Rockers 1.6/Self Aligning
CSI Electric Water Pump
K&N FIPK
GM Timing Chain
Comp Cams Pushrods
Shorty Headers and Y Pipe (undecided yet)
Cleanup heads and intake, port match intake/heads and valve job on heads. Also maybe bump the compression ratio up a tad when they are milled to for warpage.
Moving battery to the rear of car, 50lbs less on the front end. +10lbs of cableing and misc. -15lbs of other stuff on the car

So anyway, it's not much, but I have a small budget so I figure I got a lot for the money, getting new optispark, plugs, wires, etc. etc.

Any input would be nice, I'm driving the 85hp beater car right now and by the time I get used to that thing pulling, the Z28 should be done and I'll be in for an awakening again

Thanks y'all.

Sounds like a good start. Definately go for a cam while you're at it, you'll see a real good bump in the horsepower count for an extra $250-$300.

The only problem with the cam is that I don't want to have it programmed, plus the added expense of lifters, a high quality timing chain, etc. etc. otherwise I'd go for a 224/230 cam, maybe I will, I'll see what next Wed. paycheck brings to me.

If it overheated any, have the deck of the heads checked for hardness between the two center exhaust ports, and then out on the deck. Oftentimes you'll have issues there with overheated stuff .

Well you know what happened, I went on a lunch break and the pressed in fitting on the water pump came loose and fell out, it dumped the full load of coolant on the freeway, no steam or anything, then I guess 5 minutes went by, I tried to pass a car and noticed some hesitation and my temp gauge was about a quarter turn past the 280 mark or whatever the highest thing is, totally pinned, I pulled over and the thing wouldn't even start after that. I hope I didn't screw up anything internally.

Yeah.. I'd definitely have those heads checked out before you put $ into them .

Many machineshops can check them fairly easily & oftentimes wont even charge for it. I'd want a Min. hardness of ~45-50 Rb between the exhaust ports for street stuff & preferably at least 45 out on the deck as well.

Well it looks like I'm waiting till the end of the month to finish this baby. Going with a 224/230 cam kit from CMotorsports, adding the following while I'm at it.

Edelbrock Headers (only decent CARB approved headers)
K&N CAI
Comp Pro Mag's
Comp Pushrods
Port Match on heads, yes I'm checking them too.
New Opti, plugs, MSD wires.

Hopefully I should see a nice gain over my pretty much stock setup... anybody guess some numbers after I get it dyno tuned?

I will be swapping to an M6 soon so I'm not gonna get a stall anytime soon.

Should I see at least 330rwhp?

Thanks

Nobody has any opinions.

Maybe I should wait till mid November and do the heads/230/236 cam and SLP shorties?

The 224 w/ heads and headers makes anywhere from 350-380rwhp. The +/- 30 hp I guess depends on head work, type of headers and the tune.

make sure you get a good port job on the heads and save up the money for a decent chain at least the EX duty LT4

No it was completley new, I ended up pressing in my own fittings. I'm having it tanked and a CSI installed inside of it.
