Thumbs down Went to the Dyno again......not happy (Video Inside)

A while ago i ventured to the dyno and left slightly disappointed. My best pull was 261.28 rwhp and 284.20 rwtq. Here's my original thread

http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=408475

Well, i got some opinions and went to work, replacing my crappy Delteq wires with a custom set of Taylors, cleaning the MAF very carefully (which was filthy), switched to 3.73's (which I know is irrelevant) and sent my crappy dyno graph off to Brian in which he returned me a bolt on tune. The car seemed great after the tune and I was anxious to see the results. However, this time the grapg looked alot better but my best pull was 257.54rwhp and 280.63rwtq. I lost 3.74 rwhp and 3.57rwtq of results which I feel to be low. I have no idea what the problem is. The car feels strong and i know the dyno is just one tool of many but something just doesnt seem right. my friend's bone stock (except for moroso CAI) 95 auto t/A put down a best of 246.06rwhp and 280.54rwtq! He has the same amount of tq as me without headers, catback, open cutout, tune, wires etc..... I'm going to the track soon, and with the gears, tune and some new nitto 555r's I'm hoping for some good results over my previous 8.8@80.88 mph but we'll see. I dunno guys, it just doesnt seem right to me, maybe I expect too much, if so let me know, but this seems kinda low and I've tried just about everything. Here's the graphs, lemme know what you think. Oh btw, my car is in good shape but is high mileage while my friends is very low (my 92,xxx to his 42,xxx) but would that reflect these results? Thanks in advance for the input.

Heres the new runs

Here's a comparison of the best old run and best new run, i highlighted the newest run to make it easier to read.

Re: Went to the Dyno again......not happy

Check fuel pressure, knock retard, plugs, arcing at wires, exhaust leaks, then take it from there.

Get a good dyno tune. There is a lot to be said for a mail order tune if you ask me.

Re: Went to the Dyno again......not happy

something doesn't seem right at all. I dynoed today and layed down 273whp & 303 in torque with just CAI and flowmaster muffler. Any way to check if your Opti spark is working right? I hope ya find the culprit and then lay down some fat numbers with your setup...

Re: Went to the Dyno again......not happy

It could also be the dyno. What kind of Dyno is it, and where? What was the altitude? What was the air temp and Humidity? What was the coolant temp on the motor this time compared to last time?

It looks like the same place, but there can be variations that will affect your car from day to day, hour to hour.

Re: Went to the Dyno again......not happy

Plugs are fine, no rock retard on the datalogs, no arcing of wires, havent checked the fuel pressure, but I have a Walbro 255 that i put in there in october, and there doesnt appear to be any exhaust leaks...i really need to check the fuel pressure, opti is less than a year old as is the Delteq. i'm about at the end of my rope as my bolt-ons appear useless compared to my friendst stock car lol.

As for the dyno.. Same place.

Previous pulls: 79.18-80.05 degrees f air temp, 29.85 in-Hg, 32% Humidity
Recent pulls: 56.80-63.23 degree f air temp, 30.03 in-Hg, 10% Humidity

Engine temp was low both times as I had a manual fan switch on for the first time and the tune brings the fans on earlier for the second time

i dyno 267 rwhp and 304rwtq with below mods. CLOSE THE CUTOUT. I gained 4 rwhp and 8 rwtq from closing mine; running it through a flowmaster muffler.

Re: Went to the Dyno again......not happy

Dont let the dyno get you down.. My car was stock, with shorty headers, gutted car, stock tune, Adj. Fuel Pressure Regulator, alum drive shaft, stock tb, msd 6a box, msd wires, autolite 104 plugs, CAI, and some other minor bolt ons, and I put down 287/330 on a dynojet. Granted this was with a manual car, out here in Southern California where the weather is a lot more condusive to making good power, but that just seems low for your mods, unless the humidity is just KILLING your performance.

BTW.. A pic of my graph can be had at www.socalmuscle.com/1dynorun2003.jpg

Good luck man!

Re: Went to the Dyno again......not happy

Yeah what kind of dyno is it? I only laid down 261/297 (trapping close to 104mph at the track) on a Mustang Dyno with full bolt ons about 2 years ago and last spring after dyno dune, 330/315. Also on a Mustang Dyno. Most of the numbers are on dynojet types that I see on these forums so the numbers are a bit inflated. Besides, dynos dont perform, the cars do.

Re: Went to the Dyno again......not happy

Yeah, I'm not too worried about it except at the dyno and track it runs right alongside stock Lt1's and I just dont get it. It was a dynojet but could also be operator error? I look at other peopls graphs and they start their runs alot earlier than the guy did mine, the graph starts at like 4300rpms, I honestly dunno much about dynos to know if he did it right or not so I dunno, I did get good videos of it though, jsut not proud of the results lol. thanks for all the comments and suggestions guys.

Does your friend have an M6? I mean it doesn't explain everything but its a start to an explanation of why he is close to you.

Re: Went to the Dyno again......not happy

My first dyno was on a Mustang dyno. At the time I had all my current mods which are heads/ cc305 cam, bolt-ons and a 3400 stalled auto. The car ran 12.3s so I was expecting some decent dyno numbers. I put down 279 RWHP and around 290 TQ on two pulls right in a row. I was very dissapointed to sa the least.
I went to a Dynojet about two years later with the exact same mods and put down 345 RWHP and I forgot the torque, but the dyno can make a big difference. Thats when I forgot about dyno numbers and paid more attention to track numbers. The dyno is just a tool, the track tells all.

http://www.race-cars.net/calculators/et_calculator.html

try this and see what ya come up with. I found it on ls1-lt1.com

from what i remember, Mustang dynos are notorious for reading low.

look at the Air/fuel on that graph a dyno tune isnt going to improve his numbers he needs two words VALVE SPRINGS his are worn out. spend some dough on the valve train and you will see the numbers go up. Look at the graph in the upper RPMS the valvetrain is out of control thats why the graph goes up and down not because of the tune.

New springs and you car will feel alot better 90,000 miles is a lot of time for a spring

Call Dave or Sam at Combo and they will get you want you need for your car
