What is the best LT1 Timing set for the money??

how expensive are those pro gear setups? I paid 80 somthin bux for my cloyes billet double roller.... should do the trick nicely... if those progears are $200 then it is a lot like the comp cams which is awesome quality but if I get somthing billet and half the price... newer then stock .... then I am ok. ..

$90 or so. It's not about the billet but how they make it.
"Why Are Our Parts Different? (and better)
We are surprised at how many brands are out there selling so called "high performance
timing sets" with crankshaft sprockets that not even hardened. Some are just virgin steel
and some have the appearance of being heat treated, but are not actually hardened.
Some are powdered metal.
Progear crankshaft sprockets are made from 1141 steel and are all hardened to 50 Rc.
But we wanted to be better. On the 3000 and 4000 series not only is the crank sprocket hardened,
the camshaft sprocket is heat treated as well.
We also saw that the other sprockets being sold were full of razor sharp edges. Viewed through a
jeweler's loupe these sprockets are full of hanging burrs, many of which will end up in the oil pump.
All Progear sprockets are vibratory tumbled. All steel sprockets are hand filed and then vibratory
tumbled twice--once before heat treat and again after heat treat. This knocks off any hanging burrs,
eliminates sharp edges and removes heat treat scale. It also peens and work hardens the surfaces for more durability.
No other manufacturers that we know of take the time to vibratory finish the sprockets. Only Progear."
Basically if I was making a timing chain I would do it this way, hence why I use them.

On a side note, I see they sell LT1/LT4 sets or did. I wonder how those looked, and price variance between the SB set.

their site is not easy to follow and they do a horrible job of organizing and explaining things. maybe if they are sogood at making timing sets they should hire somone to make them a new website and catalog...

Progear PG3-9100ST?
Does anyone know anything about the Progear PG3-9100ST? It is listed as their 3000 series setup for the LT-1, LT-4 1994 - 1997.

you have to look for the reseller near you and call them. they should help more with applicatioin and pricing as the reseller can mark up or not. I had ordered a cloyes dual roller with multi keyways and it looks pretty nice. I am not going to worry about the single chain progear drive unless i'm putting down some serious power in a different then stock engine. I think they can be a little more pricey for the 3000
