What cam bearings?

I'm rebuilding my engine right now and I put Clevite 77 sh-290 s in the block. I have a 306 cam and comp 987 springs. I heard that sh-1349 s were too hard and not enough babbit material so thats why I put the 290's in but I'm hearing from other people that the 290's are too soft. So what bearings should I use? 1349 or 290?

Oh and I'm hearing 2 different things when it comes to degreeing the holes? My book says the first bearing at 4 and 7 oclock and the rest at 4

Re: What cam bearings?

The SH1349S is what you need. Don't know about the "to hard" question, sounds like somebody don't know what they are talking about.
To soft and they will give away and flair out and loose oil pressure.
You need to clock the brg's JUST LIKE the LT-1 FACTORY manuel says to and no other way,it ain't a convential SBC.
OBTW the 1394's are what Clevite recommends to run in it,and they should know FWIW.
