What are Comp Pro Mags supposed to sound like?
Ever since getting my new motor together I have been paranoid about every sound I hear. I know the 1.6 Comp Pro Mags are going to be louder but I am still not sure if they sound right. I have adjusted them a couple times but I am still worried. Does anyone have a video of what they should sound like? It would really let me relax some.

On a stock cam they will tick some, like barely hear them out side of the car with the hood closed. On my bigger LE 1.5 cam they can clearly be heard outside of the car with the hood closed. It sounds like a room full of sewing machines.
These sounds are very normal for all roller rockers. If you installed them correctly and have the adjusted right then try to relax.

if the module hears your rockers it will pull timing and you'll run rough, possibly less economy

Yea I have the cc503 cam in it. Its a pretty high pitched ticking noise, much like a sewing machine. I have a tune from MadZ28 so I am pretty sure he has programmed the knock module.

sewing machines...thats a good way to describe it Never thought of it that way....there's a bunch of old ladies under the hood sewing
They definitely make some noise, but since all 16 of them are making the same noise its a solid noise, not really a distinct ticking noise not an exhaust leak or 1 loose lifter..it you are hearing a distinct tick tick tick, then one may be a little loose, especially if one side is louder than the other.
Listen closely to each valve cover.
As far as the tune mentioned above, the knock module cannot be "tuned", it has to be replaced with an LT4 module if you go that route.... Putting an LT4 module in mine had the KR worse. What can be done in the "tune" is make the PCM not pull as much timing at certain rpms...so if it pulled 8* before at 4k rpms, it can be made to pull a max of 4* at 4k rpms. It can also be programmed to return the retarded timing back at a faster rate.
The "Tune" cannot be made to ignore certain noises, it can be made to be 0* which will keep it from retarding the timing for any kind of REAL knock..which is not good either unless you are 100% certain of your tune...
I'd suggest before making the tune ignore anything that you fill the tank with 103 unleaded and make a few blasts...if you are still getting the same amount of KR as you did with pump gas, then its probably all false..just make sure you fill up with the same grade gas everytime.

here's a video of mine, stock cam, but they're adjusted about 1 1/6th past zero, just past having no up/down movement so they're a bit loose. The vid shows my rrs for a sec then i rev the car to right where i cant hear them anymore lol

it's a big file, sorry
they are definetly noticable with the hood closed sounds kind of cool though

Forgot I had this clip, the straight thru exhaust is pretty loud with the LTs but in the clip I walk up to the engine with the video camera and you can hear all the old ladies sewing under the valve covers fairly well.
These are Comp Pro Mag 1.6s lifting .597"
