what to do to hit 12.5
My mom has been kicking my butt for 2 years now in her 01 GTX. I want to get my heads done, and headers but I don't know if I can get longtubes and pass NY state inspection, It doesn't have to be hooked up to the computer because its OBDI but it does need to have a cat. Would getting my heads done and putting a cam in get me there with my current mods? Also I want to get the headers on while I dothe headgaskets, it would probably be easier just dropping the cradle right? Also what kind of horsepower and torque would I need to get in the mid 12's?

Heads, Cam and stall. Theres your 12's. AI sells good h/c combos or you can just send the heads out and get a bigger cam. If NY inspection is anything like MA ispection then you most likely won't pass.

You are going to need headers. A cam and Heads would be nice but without headers, your engine will be choked up. I would say get a cam, headers, and a stall. You could be running mid 12's with that. If you are worried about long tubes, Get a pair of midlength or shorties from SLP or MAC. Both very nice headers. You would still see mid to high 12's.

What kind of power differences are there between shorties, mid length, and long tube headers? I am just pricing them out seeing how much I have to save up and I see all of them. I'd like the have them here for $500. With that said I am looking at the MAC headers. Anyone have sealing issues with the primary to the head? I haven't seen many headers without the full flange.
All I need to pass my inspections up here is a cat, so are long tubes still an option? I've heard some people say that it has to be in the stock location and I don't know if that would be a problem. If I can still use a cat, I probably have to go to a exhaust shop and have them fabricate me a y pipe right?

forget the shorties unless you absolutely need them for emissions. CARB emblems can be had for some mids, if you look in the right place.
long tubes make the most power across the board. mids make decent power as well, but not quite as much as long tubes. mids do, however, see slight gains over the long tubes at ~6500RPM's+
Id say go with a set of MAC 1 3/4" if you go mids.

For $500 you can have a pair of pacestter LT ceramic coated shipped. Pacesetter, from what I understand is a very good header. It is what I will be going to. The website is http://www.redlineperformanceenginee...lt1headers.htm

I think that I heard from somewhere on here that the RK sport headers are almost identical to the as&m headers, but they are cheaper. My main problem is that right now I am unemployed and jst trying to get a list of parts I need to get the car done. I just think it would be stupid to fix the headgaskets and not do anything while its apart. Hopefully I will be getting a job within the next month and then I should be set.
I have a friend that has pacesetter headers on his maxima and said that he really didn't like them, said they didn't seal for crap and it has a flewible piece that he didn't like. I don't think that is anyhting like they are for our cars, but he said he wasn't impressed. I am open to what other people think about them though.
When I did a search on the MAC headers, JET HOT is having a sale on the 94-95 mac headers if anyone is interested....

Re: what to do to hit 12.5
i know of several cars that have made over 400rwhp with mac 1 5/8" headers on motor. and one that made well over 600rwhp with those headers with a H/C stroker motor and a bottle. to small is better then to big.
