Your girfriend is getting to your head.

Just because your friend made X amt of power with shorties doesn't mean that there isn't more power to be found by switching to mids, lt's, or a larger primary header.

i didnt say there wasnt, but the fact remains that too small is better then too big. call Judson at SAM, Chapman in Utah or any other race engine builder that wins. they will tell you the same thing. and, as a matter of fact, when above 1.5hp/ci at a certain point, as the cam gets more aggressive and the rpm start rising, the engine will pick up hp by going to a smaller primary pipe.

another 396 i helped build had ported AFR 195s that outflowed the heads on the other 396. the same compression, a more aggressive cam, the same intake, and instead of the mac 1 5/8" headers and 3" catback it had hooker 1 3/4" LTs, a dual 3" to single 4" mufflex Y pipe and a 4" mufflex catback. on the motor it made 439rwhp and with the exact same nitrous system from the other car it made 467rwhp. the cars were dynoed on the same dynojet at alamo autosports in arlington tx. not the huge difference everybody assumes it is. but all ive read is 'blah blah blah, this will make a lot more power because its bigger, blah blah blah.' but no one can back it up with dyno sheets or track times. we never got track times on the AFR headed car. i didnt think id be getting into a debate on the internet about it 5 years after it was built.
