Talking What do you guys think of these mods??

Alright here's what I'm seriously considering...be very honest with me as to whether you think it's worth the money.
1. Hooker cat back (only thing already ordered)-$280-10hp?
2. Slp CAI-$200-10?
3. LT4 hot cam kit $500-40(flywheel hp)
4. felpro gaskets-$ 30-no gain
Total install around 750 i'd guess

so total of 1775 I would spend.

I have a 96 T/A so 285 that would add 60-65 flywheel so I'd havef around 350 flywheels HP. So what do you think, good mods? Also is the T/A really underrated???

Yea if you're going to do the Hotcam, I would DEFINITLY get some headers. The Stock manifolds really choke down the engine. Everything else sounds good, but I would invest in some headers when you fo a cam. Do them at the same time.

if you don't have to pass emissions, get long tube headers. You will get a bit more outta your cam...also if you don't have to pass emissions.....get a bigger cam.

Would you guys suggest headers before the hot cam kit?? I just don't have the money to do both of those at the same time. I ofcourse could go ahead and do headers then later on the hot cam kit...or go ahead with the hot cam kit and then do headers. What do you guys think?

I would do the headers first. For the fact that by doing these first it will give you time to research some other cams out there and maybe change your mind about the Hotcam. There are many other cams out there that you will be more happy with if you later decide to port you heads or get nitrous. If you don't need to worry about emissions then definitly get some LT's. FLP are very expansive or Hookers are great and cheap. The Hooker LT's are not emissions legal, but the FLP's have the emissions hook ups. But definitly do headers first and then research some cams and get the one that you think you like the best.

www.cmotorsports.com has some great prices and selections on Comp Cams. Check them out.

The HP ratings are pretty accurate at 285 at the fly. If you are an A4 you probably around 240 RWHP. A M6 will be a bit higher. These are ballpark estimates of course. It's those Monster LS1's that are underrated. The 00-02 are around 300 RWHP.....sigh..... Your mods will definitly awake the monster under your hood!! Have fun!

Later,

Mike

Do the cam and headers at the same time. Put off the CIA to save money for headers. I too would go with a bigger cam! You can always install yourself and save $750, and learn bit.

do headers before cam-
you will prob get the same gain out of either one alone. they compliment each other very nicely though

I think the hotcam is a great budget cam, but if you are looking for more power and can sacrifice a bit of streetability- i strongly reccomend combination motorsport's package. Talk to them and get the correct cam for you application, or do a search.

As far as the installation, I suggest you do it yourself and do everything. With the $800 you can plan to drop on installtion, you can get some coated headers and witha few more bucks a nice head job. Then you will be FLYING!

Its really not that hard, even for a first timer. Read some books, ask some questions and get a board member to come help you out for an hour or so.

you cant really mess up too bad taking it apart. its basically just "take all the bolts out". just have someone help you put it back together

One other things...it's not just the hot cam...it's the kit, it should give me about 30 to the wheels. Headers don't do that much do they?

The headers will make the car a little louder, but they do in fact do surve a purpose. They allow the engine to expell the exhaust out of the engine faster. The faster and more that goes in and the faster it gets out, the faster your car will be. That's the easy way of thinking about it.
