By the sounds of it this guy your mentioning ain't no Shon Herron or any of the guys who have made some REAL progress making some good #'s with bolt-ons.
Your typical LT1 will need a cam to get into the low 12's.. by typical I mean full weight street car w/o radical gearing or converter.
I went low 12's and as fast as 12.0 @ 112.81 with a 1.66 60' time with just a cc503, 2800 stall, nitto's, and bolt ons... car would have gone 11's but I bent a pushrod and hurt stuff, so that quest ended.

I know we're talking F-bodies here, but my buddy ran a 12.50 in his 94 LT1 Vette. MT Dr's, longtubes, 52mm TB, LT1 Edit, CAI... and I think that's it... definitely no head, cam or gear upgrades. He races in national SCCA events and has been to many driving schools. He's probably one of the best drivers and drag racers I've seen. Unless this guy has some serious weight reduction, I highly doubt he's seen a 12.2 with those basic bolt-ons.

Off the shelf, out of the box, full weight 97 TA at Englishtown Raceway park; 14.2's - 14.4's through the summer.
Gear change from 2:73's to 3:42s', DR's; 13.7s
Headers, cat back, mail order tune; 13'3s
But what's the point if your're bracket racing...
Cam and 1.6rr's this weekend...

This is what I got when I questioned the advertised 13.53 stock times of a 1993 Firehawk.

The F-bodies are all over the board with times, I remember in '97 we tested a bone stock SS 6spd car and the average time we pulled was somewhere in the 13.38's. Scott Kallita (top fuel driver) got in the car and then ripped out a 12.27 and he backed it up with a 12.29! (we didn't advertise that time). In 1999, I drove a bone stock Formula Firehawk six speed at Napierville Dragway outside of Montreal. Out of the box I ran 13.30's and then with my slicks I ran a 13.05.
Sea Level, Barometric Pressure, Track Conditions, Driver capabilities and the car all play a part in your ET's. Just because you may be in Denver at Bandimere Speedway and you run a 14.40 doesn't mean your car is slow. Adjust the ET based on your altitude and you may be surprized!

From the way it sounds, and this is my interpretation, the car just has a FEW boltons and the kid claims low 12's. End of story. Myth busted.

Na, it's cool. I completely understand where you're coming from. It just seemed that you were getting a little upset. The myth part was something that I thought sounded cool and would finish the post nicely.
Bottom line, it's difficult to do and I would call .
