What exactly are "Claimer" Rings, and should I use them?
Engine builder said he got a set of Clevite Rod & Main Bearings along with some Claimer Rings in a package deal with the rotating assembly. I did a google search but all it says is that they are used in Claimer races. Doesn't help me to understand what is different about these rings than the others. The stuff should be here tomorrow so I can then get some part #'s etc. off them.
Check this thread to see the plans for my engine:

Are these rings going to be OK? He says they'll be good for me.
Thanks,
Dave

They are cheaper and lower quality rings used in circle track engines. They set a claim rule, someone finishing behind you can claim your short block for a certain amount of money. So you use cheaper parts and you don't lose as much if any when you get claimed.

UGH for real? WTF did he order those for? I'll have to talk to him and see how much those rings went for. Is this something that I want to use in my engine? He told me a lot of racers use them. Maybe he's just doing it to save me some money He said he got them with the rotating assy in a package type deal. Piston Rings aren't anything I want to **** with though. I want something worth their money, not some cheap throw-away race ring...unless they'll work good for ~450HP @ 10.5:1 compression...on a daily driver.
