what the heck is this?
ok so ive looked on a few other 4th gens and they do not have this "thing". my car has a cold air intake on it, thats how it was when i got it. ive look at shbox.com and could not find what this is. im thinking maybe part of the stock air ducting? what is this?

Looks like the headlight control module. Its normally bolted to the side of the stock air intake box. Shoebox doesn't have a photo because he has a Camaro. Only the Firebird has the box, for the pop-up headlights.

I have that area filled with nitrous lines/solenoids, purge, relays for various items, so I just bolted it to the flat piece that covers the hole through the bottom sheet metal. The flat piece came with my ram air system. When I had a CAI and no nitrous stuff, it was bolted to the radiator bulkhead, and pretty much out of sight.

The radiator bulkhead separates the bumper/crash pad area from the radiator. In this photo, the relays, switch and nitrous solenoids are mounted to the radiator bulkhead, and the headlight controller it mounted under the fuse box (changed since then):
