What if you sealed the opti?

Just curious. Let's say you're on your second opti (the old non-vented style) and you don't want to go through it again.

Before you install the new unit, you seal all seams, screws, terminal, vent holes (there are three on the bottom of a non-vented opti) with rtv sealant before putting it on.

Do you think this would be detrimental? If so, how?

I ran a bead of clear RTW all the way around the edges of mine when I put it back together, haven't had a problem. I haven't checked inside of it since I did that, and that was about 4 years ago and its been running strong.

Guess I didn't think of running a bead around the screw holes though.....

The guys who run these ignitions on 4x4's going off-roading probably seal them up. Wouldn't you think?
