What kind of Tach to get??
I am in the process of installing a hotcam in my car and will be running the rpm's to 6k. I was pretty much thinking that i will probably need a tach for this simply because the stock tach is 200 rpm's off and it would be easier to see on an aftermarket one. Especially with the aid of a shift light. I was wondering which brand is the best and how to install. I am willing to spend some money but not TOO much if you know what i mean. Thanks in advance.

I got one of those autogages from summitracing.com. Only cost like $60. I mounted it right next to the A-piller on the driver side (duh). I believe it is a 3.5 inch tach ( or so). Very easy to see, while being able to watch the road.

It seems to be right on. Definatly(sp?) more sensitive than the stock one, keeps up with the revs a lot better. I didn't do the install, my dad did (I have bad luck with electricity ). But it went right in. The biggest PITA was to find out where to wire it to. I will see if I can find the part number.

Is it a 10k or 8 k tach? I think i found yours in my summit mag. Does it come with instructions for installation?? I would like to do it myself. Oh and not to sound stupid, what is the "A" frame? Thanks.

I found it. ATM-2300 is the number (I got the one on the right of the picture). It is a 3.75 inch tach what goes up to 8k. Yes it does come with instructions. The A-piller is the part of the frame in between the windshield and side windows. It fits really nice in the coner, I will see if I can get pics of it up tommarow.
There is no such thing as a stupid question.

The sport comp looks really nice but it is a little too pricey for me. But thanks for the imput. I like the 5" one. That would be cool if you could get some picks for me Got-LT1. Thanks for your help.

Yeah they are pretty hard to use sometimes. Hey injuneer thanks for the pic. How much did that tach set you back?? Was it worth it?? One more ? Where does the thing hook up at? I hope its not my ADL connector thing because thats occupied by my LT1 Scanmaster!!

I think Summit gets $165 for it. Works great... I really had no choice... redline on my engine is over 7,000rpm and my "senior citizen" eyes need all the visibility help they can get..... .
Not sure where the tach pickup on the stock PCM is, but its not on the ALDL connector. You should be able to come off the ignition module, I would think. I run an aftermarket computer, and it has a tach output wire on it.
