What resistance should the coil wire read?

I have been trying to diagnose an ignition problem, and I took the coil wire out for the heck of it. It tested 2500ohms on the multimeter. Is this normal or is the wire probably bad?

that seems really high, but every brand is different. look through a summit catalog you usually see like 300 ohms/foot or somthing like that advertised.

It's a AC Delco, Delcore II. And it's only about a foot long

Does summit have LT1 coil wires, or is that probably a dealer only item?

I dont think you can buy one by itself, they come with any plug wire set. I have 2 extras at my parents house. Id mail you one if you pay shipping but it would be a week or so before i go back there and then another few days till you get it. I'm sure you can find somone else on here to do the same. without the week wait. or you can buy a new plug wire set and just change the coil wire until you have time to do them all.

Dave,
Yeah, I'll probably just buy a new set of wires. I was thinking about the Taylor Spiro Pro's, but I've heard lots of people complain about having to crimp the opti ends on them.

I'd like to get my hands on another coil wire beforehand and compare the difference though. Do you have a multimeter? Could you test your spares when you get a chance?

Replace coil wire if resistance is more than 30k. That is what it is for stock wires...are they stock? If so than your wire is good...

Yes, It's a Delco Delcore II, which came with the wire set the previous owner had the dealer replace.

Guess it's time to move on down the list. Already replaced Injectors, ICM, Coil, TPS, and Plugs, and I still have a random stumbling miss that gets worse the longer the car runs, to where it's almost undrivable after 10-15 mins.

have you ruled out the Opti-spark yet? Thats what it sound like to me? Once the car gets warmed up, is that when it starts to run like crap??

It has a light intermittent miss right after starting, but it actually runs pretty strong for the first 2-3 minutes. After 8-10 minutes, it progressively keeps running worse though, to the point that it eventually feels like it's running on 1 cylinder. I hooked a timing light up to each individual wire while it was running really bad though, and they are all firing.

The opti was replaced about 33k ago for a 95 vented, along with plugs and wires. I replaced the plugs with ngk tr55's about 800 miles ago, and the miss started about 400 miles ago.

I am thinking maybe the o2's, or EGR since they've never been replaced. I had a clogged cat about 6 months ago, and I drove it for 2-3 days with the cat almost completely clogged. It has steadily been getting worse since then.

Its prolly a dumb question for you, but whens the last time you have changed your fuel filter? Does is run like the cat is clogged. really boggy with no power, does it heat up really quick (or overheat really quick)? Or does it just run great then dies?

soooo. what did you do about the clogged cat. because that is what it sounds like. are you getting any codes?
try unhooking the exhaust before the cat and let it run and see if the problem goes away. if it does its a clogged cat or muffler. if it doesnt. it could be time for headers!

James,
I changed the fuel filter just before i changed the plugs, so probably about 1000 miles or so. It runs decent for 2 minutes or so, then starts getting progressively worse, popping and sputtering out the exhaust if i hold it above 3000rpm, etc... I just unplugged one of my o2's to see if maybe they were the problem, didn't change a thing.

Dave,
I unbolted the cat, blew everything out, and poked anything that was left out with a crowbar. The cat is completely empty now. I had a not too old magnaflow muffler replaced with a flowmaster a few days later, beacuse i heard pieces of the broken catalyst bouncing around inside it. I had them check the pipe between the cat and muffler to make sure there was nothing left stuck inside.

LT1Squirrel,
Thanks for the info. I definately won't be getting them now. Carparts.com has some more OEM type wires for a little more. There was even a Borg Warner Pacesetter set listed for $23.00, but I'll have to see what's included with those.
