What size cam

Re: What size cam
Hey you have black Z06 wheels so I gotta help a guy out who has good taste in wheels out.
Depends on what you want. A HotCam is a great place to start. If you wanna go with more gear in the back end then you could get a little larger and still have it be good day to day.

Re: What size cam
How does a cam that small, go that fast with no head modifications? People with much bigger cams and p&p'd heads are lucky to get that kind of number. I loved the idle of my hotcam. Plenty of lope, but still very streetable.

Re: What size cam
As previously mentioned, the Crane 104227 (210/224) is a great cam
for a daily driver. I could not be happier with it. It will really depend
on the sound you desire. If you want your car to obviously sound like
it's cammed, then the Hotcam is a good choice. If you want a more
subtle (sleeper) effect, then the Crane 104227 is much better. It seems
like the track times for the Crane and Hotcam are very close, as well
as the rwhp dyno numbers. The Hotcam may have a bit of an edge, but
it's also lopey and a blow it if you want to sound stock.
The Crane is noticable to the trained ear, so don't expect to fool every
one you run across. I can pretty much fry the 315s any time I stomp
the pedal from a roll in 1st. Expensive, but fun.
Although this was not mentioned, for me smog is a big deal. The Crane
passes CA smog (at least I did) without any special prep. I just pulled
in the shop and ran the test. Oops, I did swap the OBDII PCM back in
.......so, I guess there is a bit more to it.

Re: What size cam
You can search, but here's the skinny:
Frank95Z, 3225 lb, good weather, stock heads, stock short block, open Hooker LT's, Vigilante 6 pump, 210/224 cam: 11.40 at 116.6 mph. For the longest time, that was the record with stock heads. He has bested that with a custom grind and run 11.27 at 119.

Re: What size cam
He weighs 500-600 lbs less than a stock car. He probably has a full suspension upgrade too. That's really not fair. That gives false hopes to someone with a pretty much stock car.

Re: What size cam
Uhhh so is that a cut on the bigger Joe O cam not helping out as much as you would think?
Hell a Hot Cam with 1.7's might not be a bad idea, just don't run the thing with LT4 valve springs.
Then again if you are going that far, might as well get a cam setup for YOU.
