What specifically makes the LS1 better than the LT1?

I am not just looking for in general, I just want to know why it's soo much better. Also, can we make the LT1 comparable to the almighty LS1.

Re: What specifically makes the LS1 better than the LT1?

Better head design (much higher flow stock for stock), better ignition system, newer technology. The LS1 is a great motor in stock form, I know of a few guys personally who's heads bone stock flowed 270cfm and a couple of my buddies with LT1's have ported heads only flowing 250-260. So if that tells ya anything about the head difference stock for stock lol. As far as making the LT1 comparable, what do you mean??? Of course you can make it comparable with a little money, but the LS1 has those same options. These types of discussions really can't decide much. I'd be looking to try and make my LT1 quicker in general, not trying to match an LS1. If you do that, you'll always be in a cat and mouse game, because the LS1 will always have the advantage in mod for mod on paper, what matters is what you run into on the street.Lets say for discussions sake If you have an LT1 6 speed with full bolt ons and run into an average driver in a bone stock auto 98 Z28, you'll without a doubt beat that car if you can drive. But say you find a 02 firehawk 6 speed with a decent driver with a catback and lid and you have the same full bolt on LT1 6 speed. The hawk would most likely edge you out up top. "making an LT1 comparable" isn't really what matters, what matters is selecting a platform to start from and have fun with it whether its based on budget or just in general ideal taste. The LS1 is an LS1 and the LT1 is an LT1. they both have their strengths and weaknesses, and both add to the plethora of options to choose from in the new age go fast era.

Add to whats been said the lightweight of the aluminum block, and strength of the forged bottom end, and nice amenities like roller rockers coming stock.

The LS1 has a cast nodular iron crank ,powdered metal rods with Hyper pistons, just like the LT1.

Oh, the LS1 also has the cadillac firing order from old.

Then I guess I'm thinking of the LS6 on the forged bottom end?

Interesting gentlemen...very interesting... So in a nutshell, basically the heads and the ignition are the main diff. With the aluminum block...that just leaves more room for mechanical error. But thanks guys. You have given me alot of food for thought!. Oh yes, one more thing..totally off the subject. Can an MSD 6AL be used with the deltec ignition?

No...you have to use a Digital 6 (I believe) instead. The 6AL won't work with the Delteq. In all honesty, I don't miss my 6A...I think having four coils instead of one makes up the difference.

What makes you think it is "better"?

Nah the LS7 has a forged crank....

Actually Lots of things make the LS1 better.

Larger Cam Journals help with making more aggressive cams
1.7 Rockers
Better Head Flow (240ish on a stock LS1)
Better Intake Manifold
Al Block
