What valve springs?

A buddy and me will be putting in a CC305 or equivelant sized camshaft into a 94 Z. What valve springs would you recommend to compliment this cam? Also, would Ti retainers be worth the cost or just get a set of regular chrome moly be fine?

Thanks,

Springs good to .550" will work fine. I have a buddy running that cam with springs good to that spec and he's tearing it up (12's with just cc305 and headers)...

I'm really not wild about places dumbing down part selection by just saying theyre "good to .550"... b/c who knows what they mean by that. Do they bind at that? I'd assume not, but how much bind clearance is there at .550" since thats what they claim theyre good for?

That cam's going to theoretically lift .544".. I'd want something with .060"+ coil bind clearance.

I'd probably run the cc987's with a 4770 locator & a +.050" lock & shim it to get a 1.80" installed height.

I have the Crane 10308 dual spring kit and I don't think that it comes with everything one needs. Don't get me wrong I like those springs, but Crane provides a .015 hardened shim and called it a spring locator!! Their tech line guy confirmed their belief that a locator on the seat is not needed?! I'm no expert, but I've never heard anyone recommend that type set-up. I had to get a Comp Cam set of spring locators to complete the parts necesary to do the job right IMHO.

I don't remember the CC p/n, but some claim the L98 oem spring locators will fit, but the oem LT1 locators and retainers will not fit those larger springs.
