Re: whats the best brand of headers?

My Kooks stainless steel 1 3/4" LT1 headers are really great headers! They were easy to install, fit great, perform great, look great and sound great! Additionally, the Kooks made the plug access about 90 percent easier to change. I also like the slip-fit collectors and I'm running dual open collectors at the track with 18" collector extensions. The Kooks Y-Pipe also fits really well.

Re: whats the best brand of headers?

I would say the Kooks are the best quality header and you will pay accordingly for that. Pacesetters are probably the best bang for the buck header, but you pay for what you get obviously. My Pacesetter long tubes are a decent headers but some drawbacks: sloppy welds, fitment issues with the EGR fitting, and the ceramic coating is already starting to rust in certain spots with less then a year on them.

Re: whats the best brand of headers?

if your looking for something that has all the emission hook ups then my Mac Mid length headers fit like a glove and also have good plug access.

i got mine through jet hot and am very happy with them.

Re: whats the best brand of headers?

how hard would it be to install the headers myself in order to save money or would it be recommended to have a good mechanic due the installation?

It can be a difficult job if you have limited knowledge and tools. Alot of people do it though with little to no automotive experience. I would suggest doing a search and digging up some previous posts that will give you an idea of what you are up against and go from there. It will definitely run you some money to have a shot do it for you.

Re: whats the best brand of headers?

My Hookers get the job done since they didnt have Kooks when I got them. But since Stainless have come out, I'd get Kooks since they will be more durable.

Re: whats the best brand of headers?

I love my Pacesetter Long tubes. They are GREAT . They werent to hard to install, just gotta have the car high enough on jackstands so you can get the passenger side in from the bottom. Then take off the oil dipstick, and alternater on the passsenger side, and for the driver side just take off the steering knuckle, and oil filter, then it should slid in from the top

Re: whats the best brand of headers?

You are going to get about the same performance out of any header you choose, unless you are building an all out race motor, so buy what you can afford.

I chose MAC Midlengths because they have shown to perform as well as LT's up to 400 rwhp, have great plug access and great TQ throughout the entire RPM range due to the 1 5/8" primaries, which help scavange the exhaust and pull in more intake air at low RPM's. Mine fit great and have ran great for the last couple of years. If I remember right, I gained 35 rwhp/ 35 rwtq with the MAC headers and catback. I went from trapping 98 mph, to 102 mph in the 1/4 mile.

I got them Jet Hot coated. You want the ones that are made for '94-'95 LT1's, since they are midlengths. The '96-'97 are shorties.

Just my thoughts.
